An Urban Fractal as an Urban Threshold

A fractal is a form with two basic characteristics: infinite detail in each point and a degree of self-similarity between parts of the object and its overall characteristics.

In historical cities, as transportation was a major problem, people would create city structure in which they can reach everything necessary for living by walking. Those mini-cities would be connected to each other and form the real city. By doing so, even though they didn't know, people would slowly create fractal cities in which everything is connected and city is made up of smaller representations of itself.

As the project area is in one of the oldest areas in İstanbul and the project objective is to connect newcomers to the current residents/ city, a fractal which brings all of those factors together is a possible alternative.
